Thanks, Glotaku!

I’m so thankful to the Glotaku community for letting me come and play at these awesome events, especially for a fandom that I love so much (I can’t resist a Sonic themed event :P)
So, a HUGE thanks to Obi, Roman, Crystal Eternal, Graveyard, Seanni B and all the other people I’m forgetting about! (Sorry I don’t know everyone very well yet! :c ) I hope to dance with you all again soon!
Selection
I learned a few important lessons when building the playlist for Gotta Glo Fast: harmonic mixing and better pacing.
Harmonic Mixing
My newest trick this time around is a stronger emphasis on harmonic mixing. The idea entered my brain again thanks to the advice of DJ Rose Ascendant who I met at a Subform DnB popup. While I still haven’t had the chance to properly memorize my circle of fifths, I did discover Rekordbox’s Traffic Light feature.
Traffic Light works by highlighting tracks that are harmonically compatible with the master track that’s playing in export mode. I haven’t been able to find a way to enable this option on XDJs or CDJs, so I build my playlists harmonically so I don’t have to think about it.
Tempo
I never wrote about how Yaoi x Yuri went, but it was…rough…when I played in Cincinnati. At least, that’s my opinion. People told me it was fine, but I knew it could be better. The primary issue was pacing. It was way too fast, and the pace jumped around too much.
I already had attempted to pace myself that time, but that taught me that I needed to do it MORE. In Cincinnati I saw how people reacted much more strongly to a 175 bpm drive, so I set that as my baseline. Then, anything at 200 becomes brief flavor, never something that gets lingered on for too long.
I even noticed a difference in crowd tolerance between nights. The folks in Dayton at 1:30 a.m. loved speed. However, the Columbus folks were a little less receptive. The good news was that I was able to pivot much more easily back into something they were comfortable with.
Yellow Cab Tavern

This is an incredible place, and being there for the first time was bittersweet. These are the last few months that this venue will be open, and it’s truly a shame. I hope a miracle will happen that will allow them to keep operating.
Yellow Cab feels like a very safe place that’s bursting at the seams with memories. The side room has writing across all of the walls, presumably from employees and bands. They even have friendly ‘security’ there: a skeleton in a chair.

Venues should follow Yellow Cab’s example of looking after their community; the tavern has a table by the front door with a collection of free stuff like tampons, pads, and naloxone — take what you need.

They also have really great pizza! I’m gonna miss that…
Victory’s
It was nice to be back after enjoying Filler Beach Episode! This was the first time I hadn’t closed. I went back to back with Crystal Eternal. She is SUPER COOL!

I got to play the original Sonic Riders for the first time here courtesy of Crystal Eternal. I had only played Zero Gravity previously. This game is hard! 😅
Sorry that I couldn’t stick around to see Seanni B close out the night!

Here’s a photo dump of some pictures I took 🙂

Bonus!
I think art is the way to my heart 🥹 Thank you to my friend ax0l1ttle for drawing this amazing art of Euphony for me!
